Bladder control problems are more common problem in women especially during pregnancy. Actually bladder control problems occur when the lower urinary sphincter muscles and nerves become weak. During vaginal delivery, lot of pressure is given on the internal muscles and as a result the muscles supporting the bladder become weak. Thus, the bladder control during pregnancy arises. Some studies done on bladder control indicate that about 20 to 65% of women face the problem of bladder control during pregnancy.



Reasons of Bladder Control during Pregnancy


Urinary bladder works to stores the urine. The urethra is a tube like structure that supports the flow of urine from the bladder to the vagina and the pelvic floor muscles that is present below the bladder keeps the urethra closed to the bladder. Therefore, strong pelvic muscles prevent the urine leakage or bladder control during pregnancy.


Due to heavy weight and pressure at the time of pregnancy, the pelvic floor muscle become weak and causes bladder incontinence. The leakage of urine while coughing or sneezing during pregnancy is the common problem that pregnant women face. The changed position of urethra and bladder during pregnancy can also affect the bladder control. Also, the different pregnancy related complications like episiotomies; birth trauma causes damage to the bladder nerves and thus leads to the problem of bladder control during pregnancy.

Remedy for Bladder Control during Pregnancy


During pregnancy, loss of bladder control is the common problem and the problem itself gone after child birth. However, if the problem still persists after the child birth, then women should consult their doctors for proper control measures. Instead, there are some pelvic exercises that should be done to prevent the loss of bladder control during pregnancy and even after delivery.

Pelvic muscle exercise also called Kegel exercise can be performed to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles that support the bladder control nerves and muscles. Kegal exercise is the most effective bladder control exercise to prevent bladder incontinence during pregnancy.
